Short Breaks and Care at Home Survey

‘Short breaks’ and ‘Care at home’ give children and young people, who have special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), the chance to take part in activities, explore new opportunities, form friendships, become more independent and have fun.

There are many different ways you and your family can be supported in Blackpool. At the moment we have a number of clubs and activities in Blackpool to support children with SEND.

For example:
- After school and holiday clubs at Gatehouse Centre, Waterloo Road, Highfurlong and other locations around the town
- Weekend day trips organised by Aiming Higher
- 1-to-1 care and support in your own home (this could to support your child with day-to-day tasks or give you the opportunity to rest/work)
- Overnight care at Hornby Road

These activities take place outside of school hours during daytime, evenings, weekends and school holidays. We call these services short breaks because they give you and your family the time and space to relax, take a break or do other things. Some parents/carers may choose to use this time to undertake education, training or regular leisure activities, spend time with other children in the family and/or carry out day to day household tasks.
The following survey is designed to find out which activities and care support services currently help and support you and your child(ren), as well as giving you the opportunity to tell us how we could make things even better. This feedback will help us plan our future activities and support services for children with SEND. This survey is conducted by Infusion Research on behalf of Blackpool Council’s SEND team and will take approximately 10 minutes.
All responses are strictly confidential and completely anonymous. Research findings will only be shared with relevant internal parties and will be used in line with the regulations of the GDPR (data protection legislation). Personal data will be collected for future research purposes only. Data collected from this survey will be destroyed within 12 months of the conclusion of the survey work.
